2005 SIDEWALK SCREENWRITER'S LAB
(Summer 2005), led by screenwriter Elizabeth Bradley
Sidewalk's second in a series of workshops designed to encourage and inspire independent filmmaking in Alabama, the Sidewalk Screenwriter's Lab, was presented in collaboration with
Not a Peach Productions
and led by screenwriter and film executive Elizabeth Bradley (Emerging Pictures, Andrew Lauren Productions). The lab was an intensive 7-week class focusing on the fundamentals of story structure, character development and effective dialogue. The final week of each class featured a comprehensive discussion of the business of screenwriting at the studio and independent levels.
The Sidewalk Screenwriter's Lab was set for two sessions in 2005 – one in early summer (May 10 - June 22) and one in late summer (July 14 - August 24). Each session offered a Level One and Level Two workshop.

Depending on experience/ability/dedication, students will finish the workshop with:
Level 1 Goals
- a basic knowledge of screenwriting, and
- a specific story idea, and
- preliminary materials for a rough draft. (Yes it takes that long.)
No previous writing experience is necessary for Level 1.
Level 2 Goals
- a completed first draft, or
- a solid page-one rewrite, or
- a polished draft ready for submission to agents/producers
Level 2 students must complete Level 1 or have at least one of the following:
- a basic knowledge of the craft of screenwriting PLUS a specific story idea
- a completed short film/screenplay for development into a feature
- a completed feature length screenplay
- Level 2 students are strongly encouraged to have and already know Final Draft or another screenwriting software, as formatting will not be covered in this workshop.
The cost for participation in each 7-week workshop was $400 ($360 for Sidewalk members). One scholarship seat was awarded per session (see below). Worshop attendance was limited to encourage individualized feedback. While primarily geared for adults, the lab also accept ed writers 18 years and older.

ELIZABETH BRADLEY
Elizabeth Bradley began her film career as the founder of Sundays Under the
Volcano, a script reading and music series in NYC, where celebrity performers included Jerry Stiller, Anne Meara, Meg Wolitzer, and Nicole
Burdette.
She then moved to Emerging Pictures, where she developed FEI (2004) with
director Ann Hu (SHADOWMAGIC) and Fine Line founder Ira Deutchman.
Most recently, Bradley was Head of Development for Andrew Lauren
Productions, where she produced SCRIMMAGE and RACECARZ (in development), and was actively involved in G (2002) and THE SQUID AND THE WHALE (Winner, Best Director and Waldo Salt Screenwriting awards at the 2005
Sundance Film Festival).
In addition to spending every other month in Los Angeles, she has been an
invited guest at Sundance, Slamdance, Toronto International Film Festival,
AFI, Script Magazine's PitchXchange, Austin Heart of Screenwriting, Halifax Strategic Partners Financiers' Conference, IFP Market/Emerging
Narrative, and the Tribeca International Film Festival.
Bradley lectures frequently on screenwriting and development at The New School in New York City as a guest of 4th Row founder Douglas Tirola and is currently a full-time screenwriter in New York City. She is working on her latest feature, an action conspiracy story set in rural Alabama.
She is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a BA in English and holds an MFA in dramaturgy and script development from Columbia University.
