2007 WINTER SCRAMBLE
March 9-11, 2007

Attention all Scramblers!

Have you ever wished that you could use some of your best story ideas for a Scramble? Now is your chance! We present to you the first ever Sidewalk Script Scramble!

Each registered team will submit a script that will then be given to a rival Scramble team on the night of the Kick Off. The same 48-hour rule applies, but with the storyline already written, you can now devote more time to production value (or sleeping). Cash prizes for the best script-writing team AND producing team!

And now for the details! Registration for the Winter 2007 Script Scramble will be from February 23 – March 7 at 5pm, at which point your pre-written script must be turned in.

Scripts must be a minimum of three pages and a maximum of six pages in length, and are subject to approval. Any genre is welcomed so long as it is written with a low budget in mind. Keep it simple!! (Sorry guys—leave the car crashes and A-list cameos for another day!)

The Kick Off Event will be at 6pm on March 9 at Vazda Studios at which point each team will be given a script written by another team. Scripts will be given out randomly and anonymously. Teams will drop off their film on Sunday, March 11 at Rojo in between the hours of 5pm and 7pm. You will not find out whose script you produced until the screening on March 23 at 7pm at the Birmingham Museum of Art (at which point Natalie will commence over any dueling and/or high-fiving that is requested).

Something to keep in mind, Scramblers. The big prize money goes to the overall best film, which means money for two teams-- the team that wrote the script and the team that produced it.

That means DO NOT write a bad script on purpose, because only you will lose. Plus, we might just give it back to you.

Please see the Official Rules and FAQ’s for more information.

Download Registration forms here!

Good luck to all teams! We’ll see you on March 9th!

What is the Scramble?

The Sidewalk Scramble is Sidewalk's weekend filmmaking competition. Fueled by caffeine and competition, teams are challenged to create a short film -- from concept to completion -- in under 48 hours.

Got questions about the Scramble? Call Natalie at 205.324.0888 or just drop her an email.

Visit The Scramble Connection on the all new SIDEWALKfilm Forum to talk the talk and walk the walk -- or just to look for folks to join your team...

Click here to listen to the Sidewalk Scramble on WBHM's "Tapestry," as they follow Team Bloodjet! during the November 2004 Scramble when they produced their musical / horror short "See You On the Other Side," which went on to claim Best in Show and Audience Choice awards.

Winter 2007
Scramble Jury

Adam Anderson works out of Minnesota to create low-budget indie movies with the Marcy brothers - Chris, Pete, and Joe.  Together, they have made a handful of features and dozens of unremarkable shorts since the early 1990's. He most recently worked as a producer/composer/actor on the 2006 Sidewalk feature FIREFLY, directed by Pete Marcy.  He is currently in the early stages of writing a sports biopic.

JL Aronson specializes in documentaries but has also worked on narrative, experimental and other categories of moviemaking, often with 48 hour production schedules. His most recent feature doc, Danielson: a Family Movie premiered at SXSW 2006 and went on to receive several awards including a Special Jury Prize at Sidewalk. He is currently working with Miranda July on a live performance film and will soon release to festivals a new documentary about pigeon breeders in Brooklyn, NY.

Josh Caldwell is known for editing and co-producing the documentary 10 MPH, an inspirational comedy that follows a pair of aspiring filmmakers as they quit their jobs and turn a friend's ludicrous idea of riding a Segway scooter cross-country into a movie. 10 MPH releases nationwide this summer. Post-production has also begun on his second feature documentary with filmmaking cohort Hunter Weeks. The film, 10 YARDS, is about the massive sub culture and growing national phenomenon: Fantasy Football. Josh’s other short documentary work has been featured on E! and MTV Networks.
