What was new about the Scramble in 2006?

The Sidewalk Scramble underwent a makeover for 2006! While the heart of the Scramble remained the same, a few exciting new alterations were made...

The Sidewalk Scramble now has two divisions. Teams register in either Division 1 or Division 2

Division 1 is for any non-professionals out there.

Division 2 is for anyone who wants some seriously stiff competition.

ANY TEAM can compete in Division 2. However, previous BEST IN SHOW winning teams are required to compete in Division 2, as well as any team whose director, cinematographer/director of photography, or editor is regularly employed in television, commercial or film production.

And now there is MORE cash! Each division will have its own set of prizes and prize money. One Thousand American Dollars will be distributed within each division.

In Division 1, the cash payouts will go to the films that take First ($600), Second ($300) and Third ($100) place (according to juror scores).

In Division 2, it's winner-takes-all with the top scoring film receiving a whopping $1,000.

The coveted BEST IN SHOW title will go to the highest scoring film from both divisions – regardless of its original division.

Each Division will also have its own screening!

What is the Scramble?

The Sidewalk Scramble is Sidewalk's weekend filmmaking competition. Fueled by caffeine and competition, teams are challenged to create a short film -- from concept to completion -- in under 48 hours.

At the Scramble Kickoff, teams are given Inspiration Items (or secret ingredients) that they must incorporate in their short films to ensure scripts weren't written ahead of time.

Visit The Scramble Connection on the all new SIDEWALKfilm Forum to talk the talk and walk the walk -- or just to look for folks to join your team...

WINTER SCRAMBLE 2006 JURY

Curtiss Clayton is a filmmaker and editor of feature films and documentaries.  He has edited more than two dozen features, including some of the best-known work of directors Gus Van Sant (DRUGSTORE COWBOY, MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO, TO DIE FOR) and Vincent Gallo (BUFFALO '66). His feature directorial debut, RICK, starring Bill Pullman, Aaron Stanford and Agnes Bruckner, premiered at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival and was a festival favorite at Sidewalk 2004.

UK Writer/ Director Erica Dunton graduated from The National Film and Television School in 2000. Since then she has made international shorts, commercials and promos.  She has written and directed two feature films, REDMEANSGO and FIND LOVE which premiered at Slamdance 2006.  FIND LOVE is to be released in theatres later this year. She is currently in post production of her documentary- OVER THE BRIDGE - and has two further features at different stages of development.

Heidi Van Lier grew up primarily in Los Angeles with stints in Seattle and Chicago. Her father Norm Van Lier played for the Chicago Bulls in the 70's and is now a sportscaster in Chicago . Heidi's mother, Susan Van Lier, plays a part in her new film MONDAY, and was the financier for Heidi's first feature film, CHI GIRL, which ran at the inaugural Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival and can now be seen on IFC. Heidi's husband is composer Joe Kraemer, whom she forced to star in her current film. She also forced her daughter to star in last year's BABY LIFE. She hopes to have more children so she can force them to be in her films too…if not, maybe just more husbands.
